Basic Principles and Applications of Color Fixing Agent

In textile processing, color fixing agent is often used. Dyes may sometimes detach from the fiber surface during the use of textiles, which is actually a specific manifestation of poor color fastness. Therefore, it is not difficult to see that strengthening the water and soap washing after dyeing can significantly improve various color fastnesses.

However, in today's increasingly precious water resources, dyeing water and wastewater treatment will significantly increase the processing costs, making the processing method of improving color fastness through water washing gradually replaced by other processing methods. Among many other processing methods, the use of color fixing agent to improve color fastness is the simplest and most effective.

When environmental issues become the main problem affecting economic development, the massive use of eco-friendly color fixing agent naturally becomes the main method of improving color fastness of textiles.

Basic Principle of Fixing Agent

• Generate insoluble precipitates on the fabric, seal the soluble groups in the dye, make the dye insoluble in water, and thereby improve the water washing color fastness of dyeing;

• Form a mesh film on the fabric surface to prevent the dye from detaching from the fiber surface and prevent dye on the fiber surface from dissolving in water;

• React with reactive groups of fibers and dyes to increase the affinity between the dye on the fiber surface and the fiber, achieving fixation;

• Increase the attractive force between color fixing agent and fiber by interacting between color fixing agent and fiber molecule, thereby improving dyeing fastness.

Requirements of Fixing Agent

• Able to improve color fastness of fabrics;

• Applicable to fixing with various dyes;

• Strong affinity with fibers;

• Minimal influence on fabric color;

• Minimal influence on fabric hand feel.

Fixing agent is an important additive in the printing and dyeing industry. They can improve the color fastness of dyes used for wet processing of fabrics. They can form insoluble colored substances with dyes on fabrics, thereby improving the washing and sweating fastness of colors. Sometimes, it can also improve their sun exposure fastness.

The active ingredients in color fixing agent can condense with each other to form 3D mesh films on the fiber surface, sealing the dye, increasing the smoothness of the fabric surface, reducing the friction coefficient, making it less likely to wear, and further preventing dye swelling, dissolving and detachment during wet rubbing, thereby improving wet rubbing fastness.
