Why yellowing spot appeared on the fabric after softening in May to June?

The influence of water quality on the fabric after textile softener finishing, different softening agents make difference, and the most recommended agent is silicone oil.

I: Experimental objective

Due to some dyeing manufacturers use directly river water in the process of preliminary treatment, dyeing, finishing and so on , thus causes lots of questions. Among them, the most common is the yellow spot on the fabric, especially happened in May to June of year.

Using river water, well water, tap water and pure water respectively in the process of textile softener finishing, We do experiment to check the influence on fabric whiteness, and study how to reduce this happening.

II: Experimental process and method

Using river water, well water, tap water and pure water respectively, we deliquate the all-round textile softener s300,  textile softener 330, Softener V12,V100, 2316, and Epoxy Silicone Softener T22BC in the percentage of 1:19, to do experiment of softness and stability.

1. Softener finishing experiment

The deliquated fabric textile softener using river water, well water, tap water and pure water, combining with 10%(o.w.f), do softener finishing experiment, after dying, check the fabric

2.Prepare 5g/1 solution using different water and sheet-like textile softener. 2 hours later, observe the stability of the solution

III: Experiment results

Do textile softener finishing experiment using river water, the yellow spot is appeared on most of the fabric. But there are obvious less yellow spot using the nonionic textile softener V12 and anionic textile softener 2316. And no yellow spot appears on the fabric using tap water, pure water and well water.

The stability of solution of different water.

The solution stability of nonionic textile softener and anionic textile softener 2316 is good in water. But for other softener, the solution made with rive water will found yellow floccule. And white floccule in the solution made with tap water, well water. And the solution is stability in long term.

Softening finishing whiteness test result using different water.

VI: Experimental result analyzing and suggestion

We an analyze according to the above situations that: cationics oftener is extremely instability in river water. It will combine with the microorganism, and produce yellow floccule, which will stick on the fabric. After drying, it will become yellow spot. Because the microorganism is reproductive in May to June, the yellow spot is easy to found in this season, but less in winter.

We can get the result that: the water quality is greatly influenced the stability of the solution and the whiteness of fabric. So we’d better choose the treated water rather than river water.

Some manufacturer used activated carbon filtered water. But yellow spot is still existing on the fabric. Because this microorganism is very small. And it can not be completely absorbed and filtered by the activated carbon. So we ‘d better add the positive ion surfactant into the water and produce floccule at first, and then add active carton to filter. Thus the water will be treated effectively. Moreover, we need to change the active carbon at regular intervals. If the above written method can not stop the quality problem, we advise the manufactures to nonionic textile softener or anionic textile softener or silicone oil to do hand-feeling finishing in May to June.

Yellow spot is not found in the silicon oil finishing with Epoxy Silicone Softener T22BC. Thus we suggest that it's better to use silicon fabric softener as softening agent in textile dyeing and printing.
