Let us talk about silicone oil first. 
Silicone oil usually refers to linear silicone products that keep liquid at room’s  temperature. They are usually colorless (or pale yellow), tasteless, non-toxic, and volatile liquids. Their molecular weight is not high. When they are at room’s temperature, they are at flow state, so commonly known as silicone oil. It is not used solely but is made from a special formula, often used as an auxiliary material to produce a certain effect.

Generally, there are 3 basic kinds of silicone oil in the market: pure silicone oil、solution and emulsion
1. Pure silicone has a very strong stability, which owns heat resistance, frost resistance, good storability, high flash point and high point. During storage and transport, there are few problems.
2. In fact, silicone oil often needs to be diluted, sometimes we want to join the auxiliary activity in a solution (catalyst and crosslinker, etc.) for storage and use, according to the needs of the aliphatic, aromatic or chlorinated hydrocarbon solvent. To use other kinds of solvent only under special circumstances, and the general polymer polysiloxane solution has only 35% concentration. Otherwise, the viscosity is too large.
3. A large part of silicone oil or silicone oil products is made of emulsion form.

Compared with the solvent silicone oil, it is superior with low price, and it is not easy to burn, harmless to health and so on. Different from all solvents, emulsion silicone is “oil of water drum” type with the heterogeneous system. There is closed phase aqueous outside, and silicone oil with tiny droplets dispersed in the water phase, which is easy to dilute with water to the concentration required for the application. The stability of the emulsion can be achieved through the stabilization effect of droplet thinning and emulsifier as far as possible.

The role that silicone oil plays in textile industry
Silicone oil can be used as a softening agent, lubricant, waterproof agent, finishing agents and so on in the textile and clothing industry. In order to meet the demand for high-end textiles, chemical products manufacturers are constantly developing various functional additives such as waterproofing agent, flame retardant, antistatic agent, fixing agent with silicone oil for bath use, which also feels good. In addition, in order to improve the performance of the fabric, and dyeing silicone products for bath use, it has a cool sense of cotton with silicone oil, which can improve the fabric handle silicone products, and can give the depth effect, good storage stability, but does not affect the color fastness and darkening agent of good feeling of organic silicone etc.. what’s more, in textiles as functional additives to achieve the textile, silicone products will also be applied to other fields in textiles, such as silicone and polyurethane composite coating fabric; fabric forming printing polymerized silicone and acrylic acid; organic silicon and organic fluoride formed on fabric surface waterproof coating.

According to its processing status, silicone oil can be divided into the primary product and secondary products.

The former refers to the silicone oil products before processing, including hydroxy silicone oil, silicone functional silicone oil, carbon functional silicone oil and non-modified silicone oil, adding up to 4 categories. In the 4 categories, the former two categories are called linear silicone oil, and the latter two are called modified silicone oil.

The secondary silicone oil product refers to use silicone oil as raw material, adding thickening agent, surfactant, solvent and additives, and the specific process of the grease-like material, emulsion and solution of other products, such as silicone grease, silicone paste, a defoaming agent, release agent and release agent and so on.
